King Charles Sends Personal Message to England Men’s Football Team Following Semi-Final Victory

As head of England football’s governing body, the FA, Prince William has been cheering on the England men’s team in all their European Championship matches. And this evening, King Charles joined in with excitement as the team won their semi-final game to reach the final of the tournament.

England beat the Netherlands 2-1 this evening in a nail-biting game in which the winning goal was scored just before the final whistle. They will now play Spain in the final on Sunday evening at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.

“My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the U.E.F.A. European Championship - and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match,” King Charles wrote in a personal message to England’s manager Gareth Southgate, which was released by an aide this evening. “If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated! Good luck, England.”

Prince William also posted his excitement on social media platform X, congratulating the player Ollie Watkins who scored the winning goal. “What a beauty, Ollie! Congratulations England!,” he wrote in a personal post signed with the letter W. The Prince was not at the semi-final game but he traveled to Germany for previous matches in the tournament. His attendance at the final has yet to be confirmed by Kensington Palace.

As England fans celebrated, elsewhere in the United Kingdom fans have already faced disappointment. The Welsh and Northern Irish teams did not qualify for the Euros and Scotland’s team did not get past the group stages.
