With the January transfer window set to open in a few days, all attention has shifted to who Manchester City will target next month. It is expected that the world champions will be active in next month’s transfer window. But looking further ahead it appears to be a formality that Manchester City will begin their rebuild next summer. Now, a new report shows the City are aiming big with who they may target next summer.

Paul Hirst has named 5 players that the Premier League champions may target next summer for the Times. The players Hirst names are Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Bruno Guimaraes, Martin Zubimendi and Marc Guehi. Furthermore, Hirst reports that there is a case against City moving for each player in the summer. But based on Hirst’s report City won’t be standing around next summer.

The player’s named in Paul Hirst’s report are all top quality players. Each of them would immediately bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad and could potentially help Manchester City kick start their rebuild. Wirtz and Musiala would immediately improve City’s fortunes in the final third. The pair are two of the best young attacking midfielders in world football. Guimaraes and Zubimendi would strengthen City’s midfield. But they don’t appear to available in January so they may be summer targets for Manchester City. Marc Guehi would immediately bring Premier League experience and quality to Manchester City’s defence.

Although Manchester City need reinforcements now it appears that they have set their sights high for next summer. Paul Hirst’s report for the Times does suggest that. All 5 of the players named by Hirst may not be gettable. But it is clear that City’s sights are set high based on Hirst’s report.
