Kickoff time, TV channel set for Clemson vs. Stanford football game
The Clemson football team has received a formal kickoff time and TV channel for its home game against Stanford next weekend. And it’s under the lights.
The conference announced that the Tigers and Cardinal will kick off from Clemson’s Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
ESPN will broadcast the game.
This marks Clemson’s second home night game of the season in Death Valley after coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers hosted App State at 8 p.m. in Week 2 — and their second home night game designation of the season after receiving one total in 2023.
When Clemson and Stanford play next Saturday, it’ll mark only their second ever meeting and first as ACC opponents. Stanford was announced last fall as one of three new additions to the ACC, joining from the Pac-12 starting with the 2024-25 athletic year. Cal (Pac-12) and SMU (American Athletic) also joined the league.
The Tigers are currently 1-1 and ranked No. 21 in the AP Top 25 heading into their conference opener against NC State (2-1) on Saturday in Clemson (noon, ABC). Stanford, picked to finish last among 17 teams in the new-look ACC’s preseason poll, is 1-1 this season and plays at Syracuse in its conference opener this weekend.
Clemson won the only other previous meeting with Stanford 38 years ago in the 1986 Gator Bowl, when a Danny Ford-coached Tigers team beat the Cardinal, 27-21. Stanford’s coach in that game was Jack Elway, father of Hall of Fame NFL quarterback and former Cardinal great John Elway.
In making the trip to Clemson next week, Stanford will also become the second team ever from California to play in Memorial Stadium and first in 34 years. The Tigers beat Long Beach State in their 1990 season and home opener.
Clemson received just one home night game designation (Week 3 against Florida Atlantic) during the 2023 season among its seven home games and had three games at noon and two in afternoon time slots. Monday’s announcement guarantees the Tigers will have more night games (which are preferred by most fans) across the first month of the 2024 season than they did the entire 2023 season.
