Khabib the hero: Fans swarm Russian soccer pitch to get close to UFC champ
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s involvement in a post-fight melee at UFC 229 has rightfully drawn scorn and possible punishment.
But it did nothing to dampen the sense of national pride around the Russian fighter, who received a congratulatory phone call from President Vladimir Putin after his victory over Conor McGregor.
Khabib greeted with a hero’s welcome
Back in Russia Monday, the undefeated UFC lightweight champion garnered adoration of the masses.
Fans rallied at a 26,000-seat stadium in the Russian Republic of Dagestan to greet their champion. And they were amped.
