Key Real Madrid winger suffers a neck injury in the match against Villarreal
Real Madrid were relieved of some of the pressure they have been feeling since their loss to Lille with their 2-0 win over Villarreal last night. The Merengues were able to get the better of the Yellow Submarines, who stood third in the league rankings at the time of the kick-off, with goals from Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior.
However, as already reported, this night was one of celebration for the Real Madrid players and fans. Dani Carvajal, one of the captains and one of the most important players in Ancelotti’s team, suffered a serious injury right before the full-time whistle.
The defender got his knee twisted as he clashed with Yeremy Pino for the ball. He was rushed to the medical facilities straight from the pitch on a stretcher, and he himself later confirmed that he had suffered a cruciate ligament injury.
While this was the most heartbreaking occurrence on the night, this was not the only piece of bad news for Real Madrid. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, another Merengue player, Vinicius Junior, also suffered an injury in this game and will undergo tests today to find the extent of his issue.
The Brazilian asked for a substitution after going to the ground following a duel with a Villarreal player. He immediately held his shoulder and neck area, and the report claims that he is suffering from a problem in his neck.
Ancelotti himself confirmed in the press conference after the match that the Brazilian was in pain. Thus, he might not be able to participate in the upcoming games for Brazil in the October international break.
It needs to be noted here that Vinicius suffered a problem in this area last year as well. Hopefully, this issue does not turn out to be too serious for him, and he will be able to return to the pitch in a matter of days.
