Is Kevin Warren committed to Ryan Poles: 'A year is a lifetime'

With the door closing on the Chicago Bears' 2024 season, president Kevin Warren and general manager Ryan Poles both spoke to the media on Tuesday, albeit separately from one another.

Warren, who was brought in to spearhead the charge of building a new stadium for the Bears, has been at the forefront of not only the business side of things, but now also the coaching search which is expected to be an extensive and thorough one.

Meeting with reporters on Tuesday, Warren was asked about the future of Poles, who would not reveal whether he has received a contract extension prior to the search for the team's next head coach.

The reasoning for the question comes from the next head coach likely wanting a stable relationship with Poles, who's entering the final year of his contract, so that they can proceed forward together looking to bring back winning to the Bears franchise.

When asked about Poles' future, Warren stated that the phrasing of "long term" could be seen in many ways, and he sees one year as a very long time.

"There are a lot of questions in your assumptions," Warren said, when approached about a potential coach wanting to be linked with the future of Poles. "When we say long term, a year is a lifetime, I know that's important. I know 2025 is important, not only from a football standpoint, from a stadium standpoint, from an operation standpoint. Again, I trust Ryan. I trust the process that he has put together. I'm confident it will yield positive results. We will hire a world-class coach, whether it's Thomas Brown or someone who currently does not work in our organization. We will get this right, and I'm looking forward to it. I am so excited about being able to start these interviews, I haven't been able to sleep these last couple of nights."

Sounding excited for the plan in place with Poles and their search for the next Bears head coach is one thing, but Warren did not seem overly committed to the future with Poles past next season.
