Kevin Byard excited for Thomas Brown as Bears interim head coach
Following Matt Eberflus' firing, veteran leaders on the Chicago Bears are coming out and discussing their former coach's dismissal.
On his podcast "Intercepted with Kevin Byard," with guest running back D'Andre Swift, the pair discussed the multiple coaching changes that have occurred on the team this season. While Byard asked Swift about the change of offensive coordinator from Shane Waldron to Thomas Brown, the veteran safety discussed the firing of Eberflus.
"First and foremost, I never like seeing something like this [coach's firing] at the end of the day, we're all men, we're all human, we all got families, you never want to take nothing off somebody's plate," Byard said. "When things like this happen, it's unfortunate. I've only been a part of it once in my career. You don't like to see a head coach get fired."
Looking ahead to the five-game span in which Brown will be the interim head coach, Byard said he's excited for Brown and the opportunity he has to lead the Bears.
"I'm excited for TB [Brown] to get an opportunity to lead this team, put his stamp on things," Byard said. "In my opinion he's getting an interview before any other candidate before they try to start next year."
Byard ended his comments by saying he's committed to giving his all in the final five games, and, as players, he believes they have to give everything they have to win out the remaining games of the season. A veteran leader in the locker room and on the field, Byard, like many other of his veteran teammates, just wants the Bears to win games.
