Kansas State lands wide receiver transfer who began his football career in Big 12

New Mexico Lobos wide receiver Caleb Medford (12) catches a pass in the end zone for a touchdown as Auburn Tigers take on New Mexico Lobos at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024.

Another day, another incoming transfer for the Kansas State football team.

The Wildcats picked up their fifth commitment of the week from the transfer portal on Thursday when Caleb Medford announced his intentions to play for coach Chris Klieman.

Medford is a 6-foot-1 and 198-pound wide receiver who began his college football career at TCU but made a name for himself at New Mexico. While playing for the Lobos over the past two seasons, he piled up 48 catches for 887 yards and five touchdowns.

He entered the transfer portal after giving New Mexico several big games this past season, including a 91-yard effort against New Mexico State. He also caught touchdown passes against Arizona, Auburn and Washington State.

Medford is originally from Henderson, Texas and spent his first two seasons of college football playing for TCU. He appeared in five games for the Horned Frogs without making a catch. Still, he has experience in the Big 12.

The Wildcats will ask Medford to compete for playing time immediately in Manhattan. K-State needs to replace the losses of Keagan Johnson, Tre Spivey, Dante Cephas and Ty Bowman at wide receiver.

With Medford on board, the Wildcats have landed 12 incoming transfers during the current recruiting cycle. He joins Jerand Bradley (Boston College), Gabe Ervin (Nebraska), Amarion Fortenberry (South Alabama), Gunner Maldonado (Arizona), Mar’Quavious Moss (West Georgia), Gabe Powers (Ohio State), Jayshawn Ross (Alabama), Jayden Rowe (Oklahoma), Brandon Sneh (Wagner), Amos Talalele (USC) and Jaron Tibbs (Purdue).
