As high school football teams across Kansas City get ready for the playoffs, many seniors are showing their leadership on the field by stepping up with big performances.

Olathe South High School running back and linebacker Max Armstrong is one of those seniors.

The 5’11’, 190-pound senior is a key player on offense and defense for the Falcons, and he was a big reason for their 40-28 win over Lawrence High School. Armstrong carried the ball 44 times, rushing for 312 yards and scoring four touchdowns. On the defensive side, he had four tackles.

Armstrong’s performance caught the eyes of readers, as he was voted The Star’s Week 7 high school football player of the week.

Every week, The Star reaches out to high school football coaches in the Kansas City area for their Player of the Week nominations. Nominations from the coaches and other sources are collected for a weekly poll, which is open from Wednesday until midnight Thursday. This week’s poll received 304 votes from readers.

Armstrong has rushed for 1,098 yards and 14 touchdowns and has scored a touchdown in six of Olathe South’s seven games this season, according to high school sports website MaxPreps.

Olathe South has won two of their last three games after starting the season 0-4, and Armstrong will look to keep the hot streak going against Shawnee Mission East High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.

Olathe South’s head coach Ron Litchfield also received Week 7’s high school coach of the week from the Kansas City Chiefs.

“It’s really a credit to our coaching staff and our players continuing to work hard and improve every day,” Litchfield said to the Chiefs.
