Chiefs' Travis Kelce wraps up interview with awful Beastie Boys pun

Since joining the Kansas City Chiefs organization in 2013, tight end Travis Kelce has been an absolute beast.

A consistent offensive threat that gets plenty of opportunity — especially since Patrick Mahomes became the team’s starting quarterback — Kelce has averaged around nine yards per target throughout his career. During Sunday’s 31-20 Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers, he came through with six receptions on six targets for 43 yards and rushed for a couple of yards.

On top of his strong play on the field, the 30-year-old has become known for having a good time away from the sport that has kept him employed, as well. That would help to explain the way he wrapped up his interview with ESPN shortly after the biggest win of his career.

To ensure that Kelce’s joke is as clear as possible, the Super Bowl winner receives the NFL’s Vince Lombardi Trophy. Also, there is a well-known Beastie Boys song that was released in 1986 titled (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!).

(I feel like a complete stick in the mud for explaining that, but now we’re all on the same page.)

Think what you want about the pun, his commitment to it can’t be questioned. What can be questioned, however, is how MCA — one of the Beastie Boys’ founding members that passed away due to cancer in 2012 — would have reacted to it. Honestly, a pun that bad may have caused him to roll over in his grave.

Super Bowl LIV was played in Miami, Florida. With that in mind, there’s little doubt that Kelce and his teammates will struggle to get into some trouble. The only hope is that the Lombardi Trophy joins them for every step along the way.
