Juventus’s Brazilian stars Douglas Luiz and Gleison Bremer have sent messages and pictures of support to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr., who did not win the Ballon d’Or on Monday night despite having been tipped to do so for several weeks in the build-up.

“We all know who really deserved to win the Ballon d’Or. We are all with you, brother, we will do everything so that you can win this ‘Ballon d’Or’ one day. I love you,” Douglas Luiz wrote to his international teammate on an Instagram story after the awards ceremony in Paris.

He then clarified: “Nothing against the player Rodri, the opposite in fact, many congratulations!”

Fellow Brazil international Bremer also posted a picture of Vinicius Jr. to his Instagram story along with a ‘no.1’ emoji.

What happened to Vinicius Jr at the Ballon d’Or

Though he had been tipped to win the Ballon d’Or since winning the Champions League final with Real Madrid earlier this year, reports on Monday afternoon began to filter through that Manchester City’s Rodri would win it instead.

That proved to be the case, and as a result, the entire Real Madrid delegation decided to boycott the awards ceremony in Paris on Monday night.

That included club President Florentino Perez, Carlo Ancelotti, who won the inaugural edition of the Coach of the Year, as well as players Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, Andriy Lunin and several others.
