Juventus finish first half of 2024-25 with worst record in 14 years

Juventus have now completed 50% of their Serie A fixtures for the 2024-25 season, and following Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Torino in the Derby della Mole, Thiago Motta has overseen Juve’s worst start to a campaign in 14 years.

Wins continue to evade the Bianconeri, who picked up their 12th draw of the season away against Torino on Saturday.

Though Juventus are still unbeaten in Serie A this term, they are currently outside the Champions League spots, in fifth place on 33 points, 11 shy of Napoli at the top of the table.

No team in Serie A history has registered as many draws at this stage of the season as Juventus have this term.

More concerningly for Thiago Motta and his team is the fact that they have only picked up seven wins from their first 19 matches of the 2024-25 season, which has only happened once previously over the past 30 years.

Since 1994/95, Juventus have finished the first half of a season with a lower points tally on three occasions (27 points in 1998/99, 31 points in 1995/96 and 31 points in 2010/11).

In a tight Serie A season this time around, there is still hope for Juventus’s chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, though. The Biancoenri are only three points off Lazio in fourth, with a game in hand.

Encouragingly, Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus had picked up 34 points at this stage of the 2021-22 season, one point more than Thiago Motta’s team have currently, and went on to qualify for the Champions League in fourth place by the end of that season.
