Juventus could rival Inter Milan to sign Lille striker Jonathan David next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

24-year-old Canadian international David is likely to be one of the biggest names on the free transfer market next summer.

The former Gent striker is under contract with Lille until the end of next June.

However, David has not agreed an extension with the Ligue 1 club. And he appears highly unlikely to do so.

Therefore, the 24-year-old should be available at the end of his deal.

And considering David’s quality and age, he will be a fairly desirable free transfer opportunity.

One club who certainly have a reputation for taking advantage of such opportunities is Inter.

The Nerazzurri have signed all of Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Andre Onana, and Marcus Thuram via that route in recent years.

This summer alone, Inter brought Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi in after the end of their contracts with Napoli and Porto respectively.

Inter are therefore already one of the foremost clubs linked with a move for David next summer.

There would be similarities to such a transfer with Inter’s move for Thuram last summer, considering the two players’ position and age.

And Inter are likely to make an attacking signing next summer.

Marko Arnautovic is out of contract with the Nerazzurri at the end of June. And so the club will almost certainly be in the market for a striker to bolster their squad depth.

But Inter won’t be the only team eyeing David up.

According to the Corriere, Juventus have also been taking steps to lay the groundwork for a move.

The Bianconeri have been in contact with David’s representative.

At the moment, it is not clear what the future of striker Dusan Vlahovic will be at Juventus. This is because of the former Fiorentina striker’s high wages.

David would only be demanding wages of around 3 million net per season.

And even if Vlahovic were to stay, Juventus could still sign the Canadian as additional attacking depth.
