Juventus confident of signing Barcelona stalwart this month as they prepare €50 million offer
Ronald Araujo’s future at FC Barcelona remains undecided. The defender played in the Supercopa de Espana final against Real Madrid following Inigo Martinez’s injury.
After not featuring in the semi-final against Athletic Club, the Uruguayan delivered an outstanding performance in the final, neutralizing Real Madrid’s attackers and proving that he has fully recovered from the severe injury he suffered during the Copa America.
All this took place in the backdrop of Araujo being linked with a January departure from Barcelona with Juventus insisting on his signing.
Juventus keep pushing for Araujo
Now, journalist Alex Pintanel reports that Juventus remain determined to sign Araujo this winter to address their pressing need for defensive reinforcements amid numerous injuries. The Italian club is optimistic that the deal is still possible.
In fact, the report states that the Bianconeri are confident about acquiring the Barcelona defender and are preparing to submit an offer in the coming hours, which could reach €50 million. However, it is highly likely that Catalans will demand more.
Everything indicates that this week will be crucial in deciding what the future holds for the 25-year-old defender.
For starters, Barcelona plan to meet with Araujo to discuss his future. Secondly, after this meeting, further negotiations are expected between the clubs and the player himself.
As previously reported, Barcelona do not want Araujo, whose contract expires in 2026, to leave for free next year. Currently, there is still a significant gap in the renewal talks.
If the Uruguayan informs the club that he does not wish to stay, the Blaugrana are willing to facilitate his departure, but they will not sell him cheaply.
However, the injury to Martinez – expected to sideline him for five weeks, pending further tests on Tuesday – could change Barcelona’s stance or at least force them to enter the transfer market if Araujo keeps insisting on leaving.
