Yahoo Sports Juventus beats Inter Milan in front of empty stadium amid coronavirus outbreak (photos)
Fans have been banned from all sporting events in Italy until at least April 3 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
That included Sunday’s sizable Serie A clash between Juventus and Inter Milan in Turin, which Juve won 2-0.
Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala scored the goals, with Cristiano Ronaldo assisting Ramsey, and Juventus jumped back atop the league table, one point ahead of Lazio and nine ahead of third-place Inter.
But soccer in Italy is taking a backseat to the spread of the coronavirus, specifically the COVID-19 disease. There have been 234 deaths as a result of the disease in Italy, according to the World Health Organization’s latest update, which is more than any country except China. Italy also has 5,883 confirmed cases, and only China and South Korea have more.
As such, Sunday’s game was played in a closed Allianz Stadium. While games have been played in Europe without fans before due to various reasons, the images are nonetheless haunting:
