"It's fun. Every year, there's always a lot of excitement about it," Toffoli said about the regular season opening game. "There's a lot going into it, and at the end of the day, we just want to go out there and play."
Toffoli has been skating on the wing of the Sharks' No. 1 pick, Macklin Celebrini. William Eklund will be on the left wing of the top line. Toffoli and Celebrini are expected to lead the team's offensive push this season.

The 32-year-old Toffoli has a fountain of youth on his line in Celebrini and Eklund. Toffoli told reporters that head coach Ryan Warsofsky has had to metaphorically pry the Sharks' young players, including Will Smith, off the ice after practice.
"I mean, you guys see it. They're on the ice first every day, staying on as long as possible and waiting to get kicked off, basically," Toffoli said. "Warsofsky basically said at the end of practice, today, he doesn't want guys staying on too late. I'm pretty sure it is directed at [Smith and Celebrini]."
San Jose has a good mixture of young players and veterans to help the team return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Toffoli was the Sharks' big-name free agent signing and has already been named an assistant captain.
"I think it's a good mix of younger guys coming in and trying to prove themselves and older guys that have been in the league for a while," Toffoli said. "Hopefully, we can try and lead the way and turn the ship around."
