Just a day into their pre-season tour of the USA, Real Madrid have been dealt a fitness setback as defender Jesus Vallejo had to leave training due to some muscle discomfort.

This update comes from journalist Mario Cortegana, who states that the 27-year-old defender has been dealing with muscle issues since last week.

In fact, this past week, it was suggested that Vallejo had indeed suffered a muscle injury and was not going to travel to the US.

But the Spanish centre-half took to social media to refute those claims, stating that he was fit and would make the trip. And manager Carlo Ancelotti proceeded to name him on the squad list for the tour.

However, a while into today’s training session in Chicago, Vallejo was forced to walk off due to the said discomfort.

Cortegana states that Vallejo’s muscle issues have been acting up since last week and the defender, who spent the last season on loan at Granada, was unable to compete at least the last two training sessions with the team before flying to the US.

Today, the Spanish defender was unable to complete the session, raising concerns for Ancelotti & co.

Vallejo’s fitness issues were a primary reason why Real Madrid have taken 16-year-old defensive prodigy Joan Martinez on the trip to the US.

With the friendly against AC Milan on the horizon, there is a good chance that Martinez will get some minutes alongside fellow La Fabrica talent Raul Asencio.
