In a huge development, journalist Alberto Pereira reports on Onda Cero that Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is close to leaving the club for Chelsea.

Lunin, 25, is one of a few players staring at an uncertain future at Real Madrid despite the club putting a contract renewal offer in front of him.

The Ukrainian enjoyed a fine breakthrough campaign in 2023/24, stepping up in Thibaut Courtois’ absence.

However, having lost his spot in the team soon after the Belgian’s return in the final stages of the season, Lunin is assessing all his options.

Lunin wants to play

The shot-stopper revealed in an interview recently that he would like to stay in the Spanish capital but wants to play regularly – something that might not be possible as long as Courtois as the club.

“Obviously [I want to stay]. But well, the only thing I can say is that everything went well with Madrid and now it’s in Madrid’s hands. That’s what I can say about my future,” said the keeper.

“I want to play everything and be number 1, but that’s normal because it’s what all the players want,” he added.

As such, an exit has been talked about for a while now, with interest coming from clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool, among others.

Now, though, it is being claimed that Lunin could be on his way to Chelsea. This development comes as a surprise and totally out of the blue, considering that the London outfit have multiple options in goal already.

But it appears that the 25-year-old could possibly be moving to Stamford Bridge.

Considering that Real Madrid see Kepa Arrizabalaga as a possible option to replace Lunin, there could be a possibility that the Spaniard enters the operation involving the Ukrainian’s move to London.
