Jurgen Klopp hails 'outstanding' Mohamed Salah after returning to form for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp hailed the “outstanding” Mohamed Salah after Liverpool’s win over Tottenham.

The forward, whose future at Anfield has come under scrutiny of late, scored the opener as the Reds recovered from a recent dip in form to beat Spurs 4-2.

Salah also assisted Harvey Elliott’s fine strike to take his tally of goals and assists to 25 and 14 respectively in 42 appearances across all competitions this season.

Klopp had taken to dropping the 31-year-old after a lean spell in recent weeks and the two were involved in what appeared to be something of a dispute on the touchline during last week’s draw with West Ham.

The Egypt international later said there would be “fire” if he spoke to reporters after the game, though Klopp quickly quashed any talk of a disagreement in the build-up to the Spurs game.

“Mo was outstanding, he played a really good game. His side with Harvey [Elliott] was good. I was pleased for him.

“None of the boys want to play not great, why would they? Mo showed what he is capable of.”

The victory takes Liverpool to within four points of second-placed Manchester City, albeit Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand.

Klopp will oversee his final game at Anfield as Liverpool manager on Saturday 19 May – the final day of the season – against Wolves.
