Julien Stéphan’s Rennes future in doubt ahead of must-win derby

According to a report by Foot Mercato, Julien Stéphan’s future as Stade Rennais manager hangs in the balance ahead of this afternoon’s Derby de la Bretagne against Stade Brestois.

Rennes experienced a poor end to the 2023/24 campaign under Stéphan with the club missing out on European football for the first time since the 2018/19 season. Results have not improved for the manager as he entered a new season and Stéphan has picked up only four victories since March (when he signed a contract renewal keeping him at the club until 2026).

Rennes’ faith in Julien Stéphan slips away

The club are sat in 12th in the league having won twice, drawn once, and lost the remaining four games. The French outlet writes that defeat against local rivals Brest could seal Stéphan’s fate despite the manager reportedly having the trust of the club’s owners (the Pinault family) only a few weeks ago.
