Atlético de Madrid have completed the signing of Julián Álvarez from Manchester City.

Álvarez joins Atlético in a deal reportedly worth an initial €70m, which could rise to €95m including add-ons, and has signed a six-year contract.

It is a club record sale for City for the player they signed for €21.4m from River Plate in January 2022.

Since then, the Argentine international forward helped the club win two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup, scoring 36 goals and registering 18 assists in 103 appearances.

At international level, Álvarez has already lifted the World Cup, and the Copa América twice for Argentina at the age of 24.

He now moves to the Spanish capital, where he becomes Atlético’s marquee summer signing ahead of a season in which they will be hoping to compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona for the LaLiga title.
