Joshua Kimmich required to take 25% wage cut in order to continue at Bayern Munich, Barcelona on alert

Barcelona are aiming to sign a new defensive midfielder over the coming weeks, and although they have not been linked with many names at this stage, one that continues to prop up is Joshua Kimmich. Hansi Flick has worked with the 29-year-old at club and international level, and a third spell together is possible.

Kimmich’s situation at Bayern Munich is up in the air. He’s out of contract in 2025, and right now, it seems unlikely that he will sign a new deal – this is especially the case when taking into account that he would need to lower his salary to continue in Bavaria.

As reported by Bild (via Sport), Bayern would require Kimmich to take a 25% wage reduction on any new deal. He currently earns €20m, but club bosses want that lowered to €15m.

Kimmich is in no rush to decide his future, and he is prepared to leave Bayern as a free agent on the 30th of June, 2025. Barcelona would not mind this at all, as it would mean that they do not need to pay a transfer fee, which is likely to be their stumbling block this summer, given that Manchester City are also in the race.
