In the aftermath of Fenerbahçe’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United, Jose Mourinho made his thoughts on French referee Clément Turpin explicitly clear whilst speaking to TNT Sports

The former Chelsea manager was sent off during the game after his reaction following Turpin’s refusal to award the Turkish side a penalty. Mourinho’s protestations were deemed excessive by the Frenchman and he was given his marching orders and banished from the touchline for the rest of the match, ultimately ending in a draw.

Fenerbahçe welcomed the Red Devils to Turkey as Jose Mourinho faced his former club for the first time since he was manager of Tottenham. The Portuguese manager enjoyed a successful spell in charge of the Manchester club as he won the UEFA Europa League, Carabao Cup and finished second in the Premier League. However, there was no love lost in his antics on Thursday evening.

Speaking after the match, the Fenerbahçe boss was largely critical of Turpin for his handling of the situation, “I don’t want to speak about. He told me something incredible, he told me could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline. I congratulate him, he’s absolutely incredible.”

The former United boss added, “During the game, at 100mph, he had one eye on the penalty situation, and one eye on the bench, and my behaviour. So, that’s the explanation he gave me. That’s why he’s one of the best referees in the world.”
