Jose Mourinho has been charged by the Football Association over comments he made in Portuguese to a television camera after Manchester United’s game against Newcastle on 6 October.

The FA alleges the 55-year-old used “abusive, insulting or improper language” following United’s 3-2 comeback win at Old Trafford.

The United manager appeared to be letting off steam in front of the television cameras as he headed towards the tunnel after watching his team come from 2-0 down to defeat Rafael Benitez’s side in stoppage time at Old Trafford.

The United boss has until 6pm on Friday to respond to the charge but he could be banned from the touchline when he faces old club Chelsea on Saturday.

It is alleged that Mourinho said ‘fodas filhos de puta’ – ‘f**k off sons of b*****s’ – in his native Portuguese at a BT Sport camera while wagging a little finger as he walked down the touchline after United’s dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle at Old Trafford.

In a statement, the FA said: “José Mourinho has been charged following Manchester United’s game against Newcastle United on 6 October 2018.

“It is alleged that his language at the end of the fixture, as captured by the broadcast footage, was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper.”
