Jorginho says Arsenal believe they can win the Champions League: ‘This team has quality’

Jorginho insists the Arsenal squad believe they can go all the way in the Champions League this season.

The Gunners are currently third in the Champions League table following a comfortable 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday, meaning they look set to skip the round of 16 qualifying round and go straight into the last 16 of the competition.

And asked if he sees similarities between this Arsenal team and Jorginho’s Chelsea team which won the competition in 2021, he said: “Yes, definitely. The team has quality as you all can see. The Champions League is tricky.

“You need to learn with the little mistakes that you do here and there because at some stage you can’t make mistakes any more. We need to be ready.

“We believe in what we are doing. We need to keep pushing, staying humble, and working hard, and trying to win all the games.

“We know it’s very hard but that’s what we need to do.

On how beneficial missing a gruelling two-legged qualifying round could be, Jorginho said: “It can help if you can recover the legs. We have a few injuries here and there. We need to take all the energy we can for what’s coming. We know it will be hard but we’ll be ready.”

Last year Mikel Arteta took his squad to Dubai for a week, a holiday that seemed to do them the world of good, and helped reinvigorate them for the rest of the season.

And the Italian midfielder was hopeful they could go again this year: “We had a good time. I’m not sure if we’re still going this year or not, let’s see, but if we do we need to enjoy good moments together.”

Arsenal will conclude their Champions League league stage with a trip to Girona next week.
