Jordan Love should not concern the Bears going forward

The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers have a long history with one another. As two pillars of the NFL’s storied history, their rivalry goes deeper than the game on the field.

For the past 30 years, the Packers have dominated the rivalry. The Bears have shuffled quarterback after quarterback while Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers dominated with Green Bay. Now, they might have hit it big with Jordan Love.

The Packers signed Love to a massive four-year, $220 million contract extension, which ties him for the highest-paid player in NFL history. The hope for Green Bay is that his 2023 campaign wasn’t just a flash in the pan.

The thing is that the Bears shouldn’t concern themselves at all with Love. Of course, they should game plan for him when it’s Packers week and that’s it. It's time for them to focus on what matters: developing their team.

Chicago drafted Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Some people have pegged him with the “generational” tag. The Bears hope that he can at least be a franchise quarterback they can win with. If he develops into a star, it won’t matter what Love does. Chicago must be focused on their guy and what they put around him on both sides of the ball.

There will be a lot of discourse around Love this year and whether he was worthy of the massive deal that he got. The Bears control their destiny and they will benefit from blocking out everything irrelevant to them. They can’t control what the Packers do. But they can control how they play against their long-time rivals.
