Jonathan Toews Hasn't Ruled Out Coming Back To Hockey
It has been two seasons since Jonathan Toews last suited up for the Chicago Blackhawks (and an NHL team in general).
A lot has happened since he last appeared. For one, the current edition of the team is heavily focused on Connor Bedard who was never a teammate of Toews.
Most assumed that health issues kept Toews from ever resuming his NHL career despite never officially retiring.
Well, we finally heard from the former Chicago captain via an interview he did with GQ Magazine in which he was very open about things going on with him.
In that interview, he didn't dismiss the idea of returning to the NHL to resume his hockey career.
"There's a part of me that really doesn't feel like my career is over yet, and who knows what this next part of my journey looks like, as far as getting back on the ice and trying to make a return to the NHL." Toews told GQ.
Toews, who is now 36 years old, could absolutely have some good hockey left in him if his body is up to it health-wise.
There are plenty of stars around his age or even older who are still playing well in the NHL like Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, and his former Blackhawks teammate Patrick Kane.
In his most recent NHL season, 2022-23, Toews scored 15 goals and had 16 assists for 31 points in 53 games played. If he brought that level of offensive production in addition to his good defensive game, he'd make someone's middle-six better.
Toews has also played over 1000 games, won the Stanley Cup three times, an Olympic Gold Medal twice, and has a World Cup of Hockey championship. He has seen it all in the world of hockey which is a level of experience that you can't teach. Any team could welcome him for that reason alone.
Only time will tell if he actually has what it takes to make a return but don't count him out just yet.
