Jonathan Quick Displays A Sense Of Calmness As He Looks To Fill Igor Shesterkin's Shoes
The New York Rangers may be without Igor Shesterkin for a few games, but Jonathan Quick is more than prepared to take on the starting goaltending role.
The Rangers placed Shesterkin on Insured reserve with an upper-body injury and according to Mollie Walker of The New York Post, Quick will get a majority of the starts while Shesterkin is out.
Quick is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and proven veteran, so at this point, nothing really fazes him.
The 38-year-old feels that an increased role does not change anything in terms of his preparation as he conveyed a calm message.
“It doesn't change anything,” Quick said. “No matter who is in the lineup, who’s out of the lineup, we are doing everything we can to prepare for a game tomorrow night… You go one game at a time, so that’s the focus of the whole group, on game at a time.”
Quick steps into a pressure-filled role in the middle of one of the worst slumps in Rangers history.
The Rangers have lost 15 out of their last 19 games, and it’s now on Quick to help the team get out of this funk.
Serving as the backup goalie over the past two seasons, Quick has been reliable and continues to show he can be counted on whenever Shesterkin needs a rest or is hurt.
This year, Quick has recorded a 5-4 record, 2.69 goals against average and .907 save percentage.
