Jonathan Quick Is Back, Jimmy Vesey Came To Play And More Rangers Thoughts
Who needs Shesterkin?
Jonathan Quick proved last night in Detroit that he's more than capable of being Number One in the NHL.
What's more, Quick won't be demanding to be the richest goalie in the NHL; he does not need anything like the $11.5 million Iggy reportedly is demanding.
Jovial Jonathan's 4-0 job over the Red Wings was not a fluke. He made 37 saves and as the Detroiters have suggested, the way the Wings were sending flak at Quick, it could have been 8-1 for the home team.
Apart from Quick, the following are some about Rangers who helped out but not nearly as much as the goalie.
1. VALUE OF VESEY: Having Jimmy back doing his total work is enough to make anyone forget Matt Rempe. Sweet Vesey's red lighter via Sam Carrick came at the right time.
2. RIPPIN' RYAN: Forget about Jake Trouba; Lindgren has resumed his tough customer act. (My Detroit scout, Lloyd MacKay raved about Ryan's game. There's a lotta guts in that beat-up body.)
3. CHEERING CHYTIL: There's nothing lucky about Fiery Fil Chytil's game. He's become a power forward presence.
4. AN 'A' FOR DOUBLE K: Those who wish to give Kaapo Kakko a gratuitous kick in the pants can forget it – for now, at least. He was stronger on the puck, active and productive.
5. ALSO AN 'A' FOR BIG AL: Pardon The Maven's redundancy, but Lafreniere is en route to elite status.
6. COULD DO BETTER: More physicality from Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad would have been appreciated. (I mean, really, is that asking too much?)
BOTTOM LINE: The Blueshirts won it on Quick's goaltending and at far, far less the price than avaricious Shesterkin is demanding.
POSTSCRIPT: Before last night's Rangers invasion of Motor City, I said loud and clear that after New York's stinko performance against Buffalo (6-1 loss in case you forgot) it was imperative that the Blueshirts kick the beehoozis out of the Never Make The Playoffs Red Wings. That did not exactly happen but they got two points – QUICK-LY!
