Jonathan David: ‘There is still a good chance that I’ll stay at Lille.’
For the past two summers, Lille OSC have approached the summer transfter window under the assumption that Jonathan David (24) would leave the club. Last year, that departure did not take form; this summer, one week out from the closure of the transfer window, and the Canada international looks no closer to leaving LOSC.
David has already made his mark in Lille’s history, netting consistently for the Ligue 1 club since his move from KAA Gent back in 2020. After netting in LOSC’s UEFA Champions League qualifier against Slavia Prague on Tuesday night, he has moved to 87 goals in 187 games.
No talks over David contract extension
However, it was expected, now more than ever, that he would leave Les Dogues this summer, given that there is only one year reamining on his contract. Whilst, in the wake of Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Slavia Prague, David revealed that there are not yet any discussions regarding an extension to his current deal, he did state that he may yet remain with the French side for a further year.
“There is still a good chance that I’ll stay at Lille. My desire? I am happy here and I am still under contract; you don’t know what the future holds. I still have one year left on my contract. If I can spend it here, that’d be good,” David told Canal Plus.
