Speaking to The Athletic Jonathan David (24) has revealed that he is in talks with Lille OSC regarding a contract extension, but admitted that a departure remains a possibility.

For the past two summers, David has been expected to leave LOSC, however, on both occasions, a departure has failed to take form. A move did seem an inevitability this summer, given the Canada international’s contract situation. But with just one year remaining on his current deal, he remained in Northern France and with Lille as the club is set to embark on its UEFA Champions League adventure.

Already an uncontested Dogue legend since making the move from Belgium, having scored 87 goals in 190 appearances, David has now opened the door to a more long-term stint at the Ligue 1 club. “Right now, we’re speaking with (LOSC president) Olivier Létang about a possible extension,” he told The Athletic, “We’ll see how that goes.”

David reveals summer talks with ‘a couple of teams’

However, remaining at LOSC is one of many options. David has garnered interest from across Europe, with Chelsea touted as a suitor during the last transfer window. Whilst he admitted an interest in joining England’s top flight, he is keeping his options open.

“I’m open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world. And for me, it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges,” he said.

David also revealed that he did speak to “a couple of teams” last summer, before making the decision to stay. Something will have to give this year: either he extends or he leaves for a new challenge.
