Jon Jones: 'My legacy will be just fine' without fighting Tom Aspinall
UFC heavyweight champion [autotag]Jon Jones[/autotag] insists that he doesn't need to fight [autotag]Tom Aspinall[/autotag].
Jones is expected to make his first title defense against Stipe Miocic this November in New York. Jones hasn't competed since claiming the belt vacated by Francis Ngannou with a quick submission of Ciryl Gane in March 2023, leaving fans frustrated with his inactivity.
However, Jones' inactivity isn't by choice. He was scheduled to face Miocic at UFC 295 last November but withdrew due to injury. In the meantime, Aspinall captured the interim title with a first-round knockout of Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 and even defended his interim title with another knockout of Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304.
Jones still refuses to commit to fighting Aspinall if he gets passed Miocic. He took some time to answer fan questions on "X" and made it clear just how unnecessary he believes a fight with Aspinall is.

Jones says he's in a happy place
I appreciate that pat on the back. Man, my life has been a roller coaster. But I do feel like I’m aging well. Really figuring it out, got myself in a great rhythm in life. https://t.co/yCtH6OgBYI

Jones: Aspinall making me 'more relevant than ever'
Nope, not at all, but I definitely appreciate all the attention he gives me., I’m more relevant than ever. Haven’t even fought. It’s an amazing thing. https://t.co/BVoWCXaCJE

Jones reminds fans of his longevity
You must be a new fan. I’ve been here for every generation of Fighters ever since Matt Hughes and Ortiz were around. https://t.co/ZmcVcOXjXd

Jones unfazed by PED history
Yep, worked my ass to prove my innocence. Now picograms are legal in our sport. Honestly, none of that will matter a few years from now when I’m covering my kids tuition. You guys still laughing about what happened at the office, I’m outside on a golf cart https://t.co/7YaMQ9TtnQ

Jones says it's Aspinall who can't stop talking about him
Lol on the biggest night of his life, in front of his home country. What name comes out of his mouth. That’s right mine. 😩🙌🏾 https://t.co/VoTIWhNYbx

Jones confident he'd run through Aspinall
Bro, absolutely. I’m getting close to being in fight shape and I’m weighing in at 245 now. He probably cuts weight to get down to heavyweight. The night we fought he would probably weigh a solid 25 pounds more than me, seven years younger, and I would still whip his ass like I’ve… https://t.co/nXIBDdYfq5

Jones solely focused on Miocic
You don’t get this far in your career looking past opponents. Right now I’m fighting stipe and I guarantee you’ll be watching. https://t.co/1VjVUK0yif

Jones says resume is incomparable
Maybe I’ll leave you with blue balls, but my legacy will be just fine. I’ve done way too much work in this game. There’s people around the world that’s been watching me fight since they can remember. He would have to go on and win like 10 championships at least in order for that… https://t.co/Ily2ikXgrM
