John Wall submits his entry for best dunk of the 2017 NBA playoffs

Not much went right for the Washington Wizards in the first quarter of Game 3 against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Paul Millsap, Dennis Schröder and company came out of the gates red-hot, opening the game on a 19-4 run and hanging 38 points on the Wizards defense in the first 12 minutes.

In dark times, it’s important to find something to give you light and warmth. Let John Wall be your candle, Wizards fans.

After a pull-up 3-pointer by Schröder put Atlanta up by 25, Wall took the inbounds pass, raced down the court like a bat out of hell, took four dribbles, left Schröder in the dust by bringing the ball around his back, then elevated off one foot from a step outside the restricted area and banged down with authority over Kent Bazemore. John freakin’ Wall, man.

Granted, in the context of a game in which the Wizards — and especially non-Wall Wizards — have barely competed, having the best highlight might be cold comfort. But cold comfort’s better than no comfort at all, and arguably displacing Myles Turner’s posterization of Tristan Thompson as the postseason’s best dunk so far is better than nothing. Like, way, way better than nothing.
