John Obi Mikel backs “absolutely fantastic” player to be a success if he joins Chelsea
Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel believes Viktor Gyokeres would do well at the club if the Blues were to sign the striker.
Chelsea pursued Victor Osimhen for the majority of the summer window but were unable to agree a deal with the Nigerian, a transfer in which Mikel was also involved in as he tried to convince his countryman to join the Blues.
In the end the club didn’t sign a striker and have started the season with Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku as their number nine options, with youngster Marc Guiu not getting much of a look in.

A lot was made of Chelsea’s failure to sign a striker but Jackson’s start to the season has shown that may not have been a bad thing.
The 23-year-old has six goals and three assists in the first ten games of the campaign and looks a vastly improved player, and club legend Gianfranco Zola recently explained why he thinks the Senegalese has improved so much.
It might only be November but transfer stories are already starting to appear and Sporting Lisbon striker Gyokeres is going to be the big name on the market next summer, with reports stating he could be available for between €60-€70m.
The 26-year-old is one of the most prolific strikers around right now and competition for his signature will be fierce, although it’s been reported he would like his next move to be to the Premier League.
Former Blue Mikel was asked if the Sweden international would be a success if he joined Chelsea and he was emphatic with his answer.
“Definitely. For me, he is a Premier League player, he’s a player that suits the Premier League,” he told his Obi One Podcast.
