“Your job is to f***ing score the goals” – Mikel tears into Chelsea ace after Man City defeat

John Obi Mikel has once again criticised Nicolas Jackson after Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City on Saturday evening at the Etihad.

Despite taking an early lead the Blues slipped to a 3-1 defeat meaning it’s now just one win in their last seven league games.

The result saw Chelsea slip to sixth in the table, but despite their run of poor form they are only a point behind Manchester City and Newcastle in the race for Champions League football.

Mikel criticises Jackson again

Chelsea made the perfect start with Jackson setting up Noni Madueke for a tap in after a mistake from City debutant Abdukodir Khusanov.

The Blues looked lively in the opening 20 minutes and had a brilliant opportunity to got two goals up when Cole Palmer went through, but instead of taking the chance on himself he tried to square it for Jackson.

Many thought the pass simply wasn’t good enough, although Jackson could have hit it first time, but Mikel was again critical of the Senegal international.

“Again, we went 1-0 up and we had that chance to go 2-0 up with Nicolas Jackson,” he told his Obi One Podcast.

“Some people are saying that the pass from Cole Palmer is a little bit, no, it’s not.

“You’re a striker, just put your foot through it. If you miss it, it’s fine. But attempt to score. What did he do? Just controlled the ball and then came back. Your job is to f***ing score the goals.”

Jackson is going through a difficult spell right now and hasn’t scored since Chelsea’s win against Brentford on 15th December.

The 23-year-old has nine league goals this season, but a lack of an alternative is really hurting Chelsea at the moment, even though Maresca has backed Jackson to start finding the back of the net again.

The Blues have been linked with Liam Delap, and are said to be in “pole position” to land the Ipswich striker, but a January move is seen as unlikely, and if Chelsea don’t add a striker it could make finishing in the top four very difficult.
