JJ Redick on Bronny James: 'I look at him as a young guy I'm very high on as a basketball player'
JJ Redick: “I look at Bronny as a young guy I’m very high on as a basketball player. He’s kind of like our first player that we get to mold and help develop. So we’re going to look at the G League as a tool in our player development system. But the thing is, with the LeBron-Bronny dynamic, we’ve talked about it, we’ve thought about it, and we'll get it done—it's going to happen sooner rather than later.”

"Must listen" gets tossed around loosely at times, but this conversation between @ZachLowe_NBA and JJ Redick really is a must-listen for Lakers fans. Redick opens up on many topics and is quite transparent compared to how many coaches get. AK

More on this storyline
JJ Redick: “We're going to empower him (Anthony Davis) as much as he wants to be empowered. I mean, if he wants to be first-team All-NBA and he wants to be in the MVP conversation all year long, we're going to empower him to do that. Same goes for LeBron—we’ll give him the freedom to be a playmaker and scorer, but within a system that allows other guys to thrive too. It’s about maximizing these players within a structure.” -via YouTube / September 25, 2024
JJ Redick on the challenge of the Lakers job and skipping the coaching line: “In regards to skipping the line... I think there’s a little bit of a misconception around the idea of someone deserving something or someone not deserving something. Ultimately, it is an organization’s charge to find a coach that’s the right fit for that team and organization with whatever skill sets they may have. There hasn’t been a moment that I haven’t felt an extreme level of gratitude, and yes, I feel lucky. I feel lucky I got this opportunity, but I know I deserve this opportunity as well. It’s not because I spent seven years as an assistant coach—it’s because I’ve worked my ass off on this craft of basketball for the last 32 years.” -via YouTube / September 25, 2024
JJ Redick: “There was a broad spectrum of people that tried to talk me out of coaching in general, and then there was, with each rumor or job opening, people telling me it was a good or bad idea. Ultimately, this was a decision that I wanted. I recognize all the things that come with it, and I’m totally okay with those things. They actually make me excited... I hate using the phrase ‘this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,’ but that’s what it feels like. And my performance coach said, ‘The thing is, it probably is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.’” -via YouTube / September 25, 2024
Kwame Brown: "This is the travesty that people are not realizing. They’re acting like the 55th pick ain’t nothing. But don’t you think the kid from NC State, who is a proven double-double monster, could have been a project? Lose a little weight — this kid is a monster. What’s his name, the center for NC State? DJ Burns. How can you make a case for Bronny James, a guy that had a heart issue, that hadn’t proven anything, against a guy that went to a good school and put up numbers against everybody?" -via YouTube / September 22, 2024
Kwame Brown on Bronny James:"But I see a guy who’s athletic that needs to learn how to cut and slash more until he gets more comfortable with shooting. If he doesn’t learn how to play the point guard, I don’t think he’s as strong as David Wesley. At his size — 6’1, 6’2 — he’s the only guy that I’ve seen who could play that spot at the two. If he doesn’t learn how to bring the ball up, he’s going to be a poor man’s Juan Dixon. I think he’ll bounce around. His daddy has enough power with Klutch Sports to keep him in the league, but after that, if he doesn’t learn how to play point, he’s gonna fizzle out." -via YouTube / September 22, 2024
LeBron James: “You know, it’s definitely different in the sense of, you know, just mentioning with Bronny being a part of the team now. I mean, I’m looking at you two guys right now. I think it’s one of the greatest things in the world to be able to work with your kid, you know. So, this week we got back into the gym, and it was really the first time that me and Bronny were on the floor as professionals training, going against each other, preparing for the season. And there were a couple moments where I kind of just lost focus, you know, and I’m not used to losing focus when I’m out on the floor. But, you know, a couple times I was just looking to the side, watching him, watching him prepare and watching him go after it. And it’s going to be an unbelievable year for myself, and I hope for him as well.” -via YouTube / September 21, 2024
