Jets unveil beautiful Heritage Classic jerseys; alumni game rosters revealed
We are 78 days away from the first outdoor game of the 2016-17 NHL season. On October 23, the Winnipeg Jets will host the Edmonton Oilers at Investors Group Field in the 2016 Heritage Classic.
The two teams held a press conference on Friday at Portage and Main in Winnipeg where the rosters for the alumni game were revealed as well as the jerseys the Jets and Oilers will wear.
First, the jerseys.
Edmonton’s jerseys are simply the alternates they’ve been wearing since last season which bring back memories of their time in the WHA. Winnipeg’s, meanwhile, are great — so, so great. They’re one of the best throwbacks an NHL team has worn (Full gallery here) for these outdoor games. We’ll get two more looks at them later in the season when the Jets wear them on Jan. 9 vs. Calgary and March 19 vs. Minnesota.
The jerseys are a nod to the WHA days for both the Jets and Oilers. The two sides met in the final Avco Cup in 1979 with Winnipeg winning their third title in four years.
Now we get to the alumni rosters for the game scheduled for Oct. 22.
