The race for the Central Division lead is becoming increasingly tight. Five points separate the Jets from the fourth-place team, the Colorado Avalanche. The Minnesota Wild are two points behind the Jets, and the Dallas Stars are five points behind but have two games in hand. Extending their lead will be difficult with the Kings coming into town.

The Kings are eight points back of the Vegas Golden Knights for the Pacific Division lead, but they have three games in hand. The Kings also enter tonight's game with momentum and confidence, having won four straight games, three of which were against teams ahead of them in the standings.

The Kings lead the league in goals against per game and shots allowed per game and have the ninth-best penalty killer. Kings HC Jim Hiller has done a fantastic job of getting his young players to buy into a defensive game. The Kings have benefited from the emergences of Brandt Clarke and Alex Laferriere but have also benefited from Anze Kopitar's elite level, even at the age of 37.

The Kings play a defensive game but outshoot and out-chance their opponents at 5-on-5. The Jets outscore their opponents at 5-on-5 but don't carry the play as much as some would expect. They get outshot frequently and the chance share favours their opponents on most nights.

Tonight's matchup is difficult for the Jets, but with their elite finishers, they'll need every bit of their team top-three shooting percentage to be clicking tonight.
