Toews was forced to step away from hockey nearly two years ago, but now the 36-year-old has worked hard and done endless research on how to better himself and allow him the opportunity to make a comeback to the NHL.
Now, after time away from the sport to address his battle with Chronic Inflammatory Response Disorder, Toews has resumed skating, reportedly returned to his playing weight, and could be ready to rejoin a team in the NHL.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli broke the news during Amazon’s Sports On Prime Canada broadcast Thursday, identifying the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche and the Jets as potential suitors for the veteran center.
Toews is one of the greatest winners of all time, winning three Stanley Cups and joining the triple gold club for winning gold medals at the World Juniors, World Championship and the Olympics. Individually, Toews has impressed, winning the Selke Trophy and Conn Smythe to go along with his 372 goals and 883 points in 1067 regular season games.
The Winnipeg native wasn't playing to the level he once was during his last season with the Chicago Blackhawks but at this stage of his career, Toews can provide a sturdy two-way game and unparalleled leadership.
“It’s been almost two calendar years since we’ve seen Jonathan Toews on the ice but I can tell you that there’s no shortage of teams whose interest peaked over the holidays when Toews detailed his five-week healing journey in India as he’s been suffering from Chronic Inflammatory Response Disorder,” said Seravalli. “He’s feeling the best he has in years and hinted in that story that he might want to resume his NHL career.”

The Jets could benefit greatly from Toews' possible addition. Their second and third-line centers are currently Vladislav Namestnikov and Adam Lowry but Namestnikov has struggled in the face-off dot compared to Toews. It would take pressure off of Namestnikov and place Toews in a role he is familiar with.
Toews expressed his desire to return to a cup-contending team in a recent interview with GQ and the Jets have put themselves in a position to be considered that. If Toews does elect to make his return this year, he'd have to be on a reserves list by the Mar. 7 trade deadline.
“I’m told that multiple teams expressed interest in Toews, a potential return, to his agent, Pat Brisson from CAA Sports. They’re not entirely sure yet as to whether or not Toews might try and resume playing this year, in which case he’d have to be on a reserves list by the trade deadline on March 7, or if this is something that will wait until next year,” Seravalli explained.

One of the best two-way forwards the NHL has ever seen would help any team but the Jets would be greatly appreciative if Toews elects to sign with the Jets.
