Jets Re-Claim Kaapo Kahkonen off Waivers from Colorado

The Winnipeg Jets have re-claimed goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen off Waivers from division rival Colorado Avalanche.

On Tuesday afternoon, news broke that one of the three players placed on Waivers (for the purpose of AHL assignment) was claimed. That player was Kahkonen, while Matt Benning and Andreas Athanasiou both passed through unclaimed.

Kahkonen, who signed with Winnipeg this past offseason, was the Jets' final cut this season. He was placed on Waivers on October 10 in hopes of slipping through to the Moose to help the Jets' farm club in Manitoba.

The Avalanche saw right through that tactic and claimed him the following day.

His time with Colorado was short lived. Only seeing action in one game for the big-league team, Kahkonen gave up four goals on 20 shots against Tampa Bay, while losing two games for the Avalanche's AHL affiliate (by way of conditioning loan).

No other club appeared interested in Kahkonen's services, meaning the Jets will be able to send him directly down to the Moose, where he will provide a veteran presence to the youthful duo of Domenic DiVincentiis and Thomas Milic.
