The Maple Leafs were the team that ended the Jets' eight-game winning streak at the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign, losing 6-4 courtesy of a John Tavares hat trick. The Jets got off to a slow start in that matchup and paid the price. The Maple Leafs jumped out to a 4-0 lead less than 25 minutes into the game before back-to-back Kyle Connor goals gave them life.

The Maple Leafs answered back and held off the Jets' attempt at a comeback. After 60 minutes, the Jets were outshot 36-23. In today's afternoon matchup, the Jets will need to play a complete game for a full 60 minutes as they did on Saturday against the Minnesota Wild.

"We’ve been playing good hockey. We’re still first in the league, so we’ve been playing good," said Cole Perfetti following the Jets' 5-0 win over the Wild. "There has been times in the last little bit where we haven’t put a full sixty-minute effort in. But it’s not for a lack of effort, but just a little execution here and there. But I think tonight was a great example of us knowing what we wanted to do and we came out and executed. It was exactly what we wanted. Now, we just need to follow that up. We have been playing some really good hockey, and we are going to see everyone’s best game. We are the top team, so everyone is getting prepared to play us. We just have to be prepared for that, and tonight we were."

Perfetti, a native of Whitby, ON will be close to home for today's game and will want to beat the Maple Leafs as badly as anyone else on the Jets' roster would. His seven goals and 23 points in 35 games have him on pace to eclipse his career-high in points. With Nikolaj Ehlers back healthy and playing alongside him on the second line, his chances of doing so increase drastically.

Even without Auston Matthews, the Maple Leafs pose quite the test. Under Craig Berube, the team isn't as potent offensively as they have been in years past but are as difficult as ever to create high-quality chances against.

Puck drop is at 1:00 P.M. CST at Scotiabank Arena.
