The Washington Capitals head into Friday’s action as the best team in the NHL with 104 points.

They are also arguably the Eastern Conference’s main Stanley Cup favorite. But considering the organization’s past playoff disappointments, should Washington fans get ahead of themselves, like the person wearing the above jersey?

Capitals Outsider said this foul is from 49-year-old Dan Gaskil from Silver Spring and has an interesting story behind it.

Gaskill became a Caps fan by “accident” four years ago. After a meeting, he was invited to attend a Caps game and “walked into the building and just loved it.”

The jersey is signed by both Nicklas Backstrom and Marcus Johansson. “I said if you sign this, it’s a contract to get that Stanley. Backstrom said: ‘Give me that thing.’”

According Capitals Outsider, Gaskill said he will re-stitch the “7” as “8” if the Capitals don’t win this year.
