Jersey Bulls’ 22-game unbeaten run in Combined Counties Premier South was ended as league leaders Whyteleafe won 1-0 at Springfield.

The islanders had goalkeeper Euan Van der Vliet to thank after a fine save after half an hour helped Bulls go into the break 0-0.

Jamie Mascoll got the game’s only goal after 66 minutes as he reacted quickest after the hosts failed to clear.

Bulls had two good chances late on, but could not convert as manager Elliot Powell suffered his first league defeat since taking charge of the side in the summer.

The win keeps Whyteleafe top of the table ahead of Redhill on goal difference.

Bulls are third, seven points behind with four games in hand and a superior goal difference.

“What spectacle. I thought it was a really good game,” Powell told BBC Radio Jersey.

“Clearly, we haven't come out on the right side of it, so I'm not going to look at it too fondly.

“At the end both teams were going at it, credit to them they defended their box incredibly well there for the last 20 minutes.

“I thought we really got the crowd into it, 1,000 people cheering us on largely, maybe apart from 100 Whyteleafe fans, but a great day, great performance, just not quite good enough to get a point.”
