Yahoo Sports Jerry Stackhouse signs Scottie Pippen's son as first recruit at Vanderbilt
Former NBA star Jerry Stackhouse inked his first recruit as the head coach of Vanderbilt on Thursday, signing the son of an NBA legend.
Scotty Pippen Jr. — the son of NBA Hall of Famer and former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen — signed his national letter of intent to play at Vanderbilt next season, the school announced.
"We are extremely excited to add Scotty to our Commodore basketball family," Stackhouse said in a release. "Scotty is a dynamic point guard who has the ability and poise to make an immediate impact on our roster. Scotty's natural leadership qualities along with his ability to make others better will help us bring Memorial Magic back to campus, and I'm looking forward to seeing him wear the black and gold."
Pippen averaged 16.3 points, 4.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds last season at Sierra Canyon High School in California, leading the school to a state championship and a 32-3 record. The point guard averaged 15 points and 3.6 rebounds with his team on the Nike EYBL circuit, too, per the release.
Pippen received offers from Washington State, San Francisco and UC-Santa Barbara, and was a Rivals.com three-star recruit. His dad, Scottie Pippen, played in the NBA from 1987-2004, most notably with Michael Jordan and the Bulls, where he won six NBA championships.
Stackhouse took over in Nashville earlier this month, replacing Bryce Drew. He previously worked as an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies.
