Jeremy Swayman's Agent Releases Shocking Statement
Earlier today (Sept. 30), Boston Bruins president Cam Neely insinuated to reporters that the Original Six club had offered Jeremy Swayman a $64 million contract:
"I know that I’d have 64 million reasons why I’d be playing right now."
In response to Neely's comment, Swayman's agent, Lewis Gross, has now released a statement to defend his client.
Here is what Gross said on the matter:
"Normally, I do not release statements or discuss negotiations through the media. However, in this case, I feel I need to defend my client. At today's press conference, $64 million was referenced. This was the first time that number was discussed in our negotiations. Prior to the press conference, no offer was made reaching that level."
Gross also ended his statement with the following:
"We are extremely disappointed. This was not fair to Jeremy. We will take a few days to discuss where we go from here."
This is undoubtedly a surprising and concerning development to see. If this was Swayman and his agent's first time hearing that a $64 million offer was on the table, Neely's comment earlier will not help a new deal come to fruition any faster.
We will now need to wait and see how Neely and the rest of the Bruins' management respond to Gross' statement. Clearly, this situation is only getting more stressful for Bruins fans.
