Manchester United may have to cross Bayer Leverkusen’s marauding wing back Jeremie Frimpong off their wish list if a new report from Spain is to be believed.

The Red Devils are widely expected to recruit a right back this summer as Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks set to be joining West Ham.

Frimpong is a long-term target and believed to be a favourite of manager Erik ten Hag, but Real Madrid Confidencial claims the 23 year old only has eyes for one team – and it’s not United.

The outlet reports that “Frimpong’s agent has told Real Madrid that they are prepared to reject all offers that the Dutch player receives to sign for the Madrid team in 2025.

“His price is determined by the 40 million euro release clause in his contract.

“Real Madrid have not yet made any decision on the matter.”

It seems unlikely that los Blancos would commit to an expenditure of that magnitude a year in advance.

They have asked for players to wait out their contracts to join them for free, such as David Alaba, Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Rudiger.

The Merengues also tried the same trick with Leny Yoro, but United managed to prise him away from their grasp by striking a €60 million deal with LOSC Lille.

But Frimpong’s contract at Leverkusem runs until 2028 so being asked if they will pay €40 million in a year’s time is a different kettle of fish for the Spanish giants.

The player’s desire to play for Real Madrid and only them is reminiscent of Yoro, but the latter is proof that heads can be turned.

Even so, United are unlikely to be any more able to raise €40 million for a full back as Real are right now, especially one whose heart lies elsewhere.
