Jefferson, Pacheco, Kupp, Tagovailoa among NFL stars injured in Week 2

Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Justin Jefferson, Isiah Pacheco, Cooper Kupp and Tua Tagovailoa were among the NFL stars injured in Week 2 of the season.

Players hurt in Thursday and Sunday games will be evaluated for their injuries this week to determine potential timelines for return.

Tagovailoa, who sustained a concussion in the third quarter of the Miami Dolphins' loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, has no current timeline for return, according to coach Mike McDaniel.

The Dolphins are say they will start backup quarterback Skylar Thompson in Week 3, and are looking for a backup quarterback.

Thompson completed 8 of 14 passes for 80 yards after Tagovailoa left the game. The Dolphins also lost left tackle Terron Armstead to a shoulder injury. McDaniel said he is "optimistic" that Armstead will be playing again "sooner than later."

Bills linebacker Terrell Bernard sustained a pectoral strain.

The Dolphins (1-1) will play the Seattle Seahawks (2-0) on Sunday in Seattle. The Bills (2-0) will host the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) on Sept. 23 in Orchard Park, N.Y.

The Jaguars lost running back Tank Bigsby and safety Andre Cisco to respective shoulder and groin injuries in their loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday in Jacksonville Fla.

Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson caught four passes for 133 yards and a score, but sustained a quad contusion in the third quarter of a win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The wide receiver later told reporters that he is "not seriously injured" and expects to play in Week 3. The Vikings (2-0) will host the Houston Texans (2-0) on Sunday in Minneapolis.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco sustained an ankle injury in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said the running back will undergo tests to determine the extent. Pacheco totaled 111 yards from scrimmage on 24 touches in the victory.

The Bengals lost defensive tackle B.J. Hill to a hamstring injury.

The Chiefs (2-0) will take on the Atlanta Falcons (0-1) on Sunday in Atlanta. The Bengals (0-2) will host the Washington Commanders (1-1) on Sept. 23 in Cincinnati.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp injured an ankle in the first half of a loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Kupp totaled four catches for 37 yards before leaving. He was seen in a walking boot after the game.

The Rams, who already are playing without Puka Nacua, will now lean on a wide receiver group of Jordan Whittington, Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson and Tutu Atwell.

Rams safety John Johnson III hurt his shoulder. The Rams (0-2) will host the 49ers (1-1) on Sunday in Inglewood, Calif.

Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears injured an ankle during a loss to the New York Jets on Sunday in Nashville. Spears totaled 31 yards from scrimmage on eight touches. Titans starter Tony Pollard logged 102 yards from scrimmage 22 touches.

The Jets lost linebackers C.J. Mosley (foot) and Jermaine Johnson II (Achilles) to injuries.

The Titans (0-2) will host the Green Bay Packers (1-1) on Sunday in Nashville. The Jets (1-1) will host the New England Patriots (1-1) on Thursday in East Rutherford, N.J.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert told reporters that his leg got "rolled up on" and he underwent X-rays after a 26-3 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C. Herbert said he was a little sore, but he did not leave the game.

"I'll know more in the next couple days, but I was able to finish the game and keep moving around on it," Herbert said.

Herbert completed 14 of 20 passes for 130 yards, two scores and an interception. The Chargers (2-0) will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) on Sunday in Pittsburgh.

New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill sustained a chest injury and did not return during a Week 2 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Hill totaled just one catch for 1 yard before a second-half departure.

The Saints (2-0) will host the Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) on Sunday in New Orleans.

New York Giants kicker Graham Gano sustained a hamstring injury on the opening kickoff during a loss to the Washington Commanders. He did not return. Punter Jamie Gillan took over kicking duties and missed an extra point attempt.

The Giants (0-2) will face the Cleveland Browns (1-1) on Sunday in Cleveland.

Browns backup running back Pierre Strong (hamstring) and wide receiver David Bell (hip) were hurt in a win over the Jaguars.

The Eagles will host the Falcons in the NFL's Week 2 finale at 8:15 p.m. Monday in Philadelphia.
