The freshman from Warroad, Minn., suited up in his first career NCAA game against Bemidji State Saturday, scoring two goals and adding an assist.

Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fourth round of the 2023 NHL Draft, Shaugabay spent last season playing for the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers. In 62 regular season games, he scored 15 goals and added 40 assists for 55 points. He added a further six points in eight playoff games.

Shaugabay is perhaps most well known for his storied high school playing career at Warroad High, which has seen current NHL players such as T.J. Oshie and Brock Nelson come through the program. In 110 career games over parts of four seasons, Shaugabay had 114 goals and 190 assists for 304 points.

As Shaugabay gets set for the Bulldogs two game series against UMass Lowell this week, he will be one to watch. If his first NCAA game is a sign of things to come, it will not be long before Shaugabay cements himself as one of the top players in college hockey.
