Jaxon Smith-Njigba tried to warn the Bears about Shane Waldron
In every failed relationship, there are signs that tell the story once it eventually plays out to the end, whether it be in real life or football life. For the Chicago Bears, the signs have been blatantly obvious over the past three weeks with each gut-wrenching loss getting more and more embarrassing.
However, for some in the NFL, they saw the signs before the season even began when it comes to Shane Waldron and the lack of production for the Bears offense. Before arriving in Chicago, Waldron was the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks since 2021, and a current Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba warned Chicago about Waldron after he was hired.
During Super Bowl week in February, then-rookie Smith-Njigba was asked about his thoughts on the hiring of Waldron, and struggled to come up with any encouraging words until the end. At the time, it was unknown whether Justin Fields or Caleb Williams would be the quarterback for Chicago, and Smith-Njigba believed that Fields and Waldron would mesh well, but the two never became a pair.
“Good luck to y’all,” Smith-Njigba said, via CHGO. “I mean, he’s a great person. He’s a great offensive coordinator. I was very lucky to have him my first year. Learned a lot from him. I think him and [quarterback] Justin [Fields] will mesh well and adding more guys around him I think will be great.”

Answering the question and saying it all with "Good luck to y'all," the words from Seattle's receiver coming off his rookie year should've been a very telling sign. In his rookie season, Smith-Njigba caught 63 passes on 93 targets, going for 628 receiving yards, and scoring four touchdowns. With Waldron out of the picture, Smith-Njigba has 50 receptions through nine games in 2024, with 568 yards and three touchdowns, with the second half of the season still remaining.
The signs were there before the season began and they've been there out in the wide open for everyone to see, that this offense is an absolute disaster. There's no word on if the team will make any changes to the offensive play-calling or coaching staff, but it's the biggest topic of discussion surrounding the Bears right now.
