Jason Spezza Named General Manager of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Jason Spezza has been promoted to general manager of the team's AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He remains in his assistant general manager role with Pittsburgh.

Spezza came to Pittsburgh with general manager Kyle Dubas after he departed from Toronto after the 2022-23 season. The 41-year-old entered management with the Maple Leafs as special assistant to the general manager after he retired in 2022, cultivating a close relationship with Dubas.

The Mississauga, ON, native was the second overall pick in the 2001 entry draft and had an incredible NHL career, racking up 995 points in 1248 games with the Ottawa Senators, Dallas Stars, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Spezza has brief but memorable AHL playing career. He lead the league in points and won the MVP award in 2004-05 with the Binghamton Senators during the NHL lockout. He recorded 171 points in 123 career AHL games.

The Penguins have signed a number of bottom-six players that should also help boost the WBS Penguins heading into next season. WBS lost in the first-round of the Calder Cup playoffs to Lehigh Valley.
